How to Donate to Charities in Denver With Limited Cash Flow

August 24, 2016

Many people assume that in order to donate to charities in Denver, you have to have cash. Financial donations are great, but the truth is, charities need a lot more than just money. Here are some ways you can give back to you community without opening your pocketbook:

Give your time.
Charities in Denver will always welcome volunteers with open arms, especially during busier times of the year such as the holidays. Charities need people with a variety of skill sets. If you know basic computer skills, you may be able to help a charity track donations or send marketing emails. If you’re physically strong, help a local food bank separate canned foods and store them in their facilities. Have a knack for math? See if you can help tutor underprivileged children at local kids’ charities. No matter what you’re good at, chances are, there is a way for you to help some of the local charities.

Donate clothes.
Everyone has things in their closets that they no longer wear, so why keep them around? Spend a weekend cleaning out all of your closets, and then donate any items that are still in good condition to local charities in Denver that accept clothing. Get everyone in your family involved in this project so you can feel good about giving back and come home to a cleaner house, too!

Give blood.
Blood is always in demand, so if you can’t donate your time or money, why not give life instead? Although some blood types are more in demand than others, every type is needed, so as long as you are able to give blood, you should definitely add this to your to-do list.

You should also consider giving platelets or plasma, but some donor centers do not collect these, so call ahead to find out if yours does.

Choose the right credit card.
Some credit card companies donate a certain percentage of what you spend to charities in Denver. Call your credit card company and find out if this is an option for your account, and if not, try to find a credit card that does offer this service. Remember, this doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy more stuff so you can donate more, just use your credit card whenever you buy groceries, gas, or other necessities.

Get a haircut.
Do you have long, beautiful hair? If you plan on cutting it soon, you should consider donating it to charities in Denver that accept hair donations. Locks of Love, which is a national non-profit that accepts donations from around the country, is one charity that collects hair donations and sells them, while also turning a small percentage of their donations into hairpieces for children who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
